FDR-Landon Presidential Election

The 1936 election between Franklin D. Roosevelt and Alf Landon presented the first instance of polling used to predict the election outcome.

The election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (D) over Alf Landon (R) was the first instance of a poll being used to predict the outcome. George Gallup wrote for the Liberty Digest that a statistical random sampling predicted FDR’s victory by a margin of 1.1%. Gallup’s name may be familiar as his analytics company Gallup conducts some of the most prominent polls today.
