View ContentThe carbon opportunity cost of animal-sourced food production on land

This study shows that eliminating meat and dairy production could remove up to 16 years of carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, drastically helping to reach the goal of net-zero emissions. If production continues, we will shift further from this number and the goal.

Discussion Questions

  1. Do you think eliminating dairy and meat is practical? Would the U.S. ever do this?
  2. Have you cut out dairy and/or meat? If so, why? If not, would you consider doing so knowing it can reduce your carbon footprint?
